What Affects the Cost of a Wig?
There are some obvious and not-so-obvious things that affect how much you’ll end up paying for a wig.
As seen above, the type of hair used (as well as the quality of the hair) has a big affect on cost. Wigs made with synthetic materials cost less than those made with 100% real human hair.
If it’s a human hair wig, where the wig comes from makes a difference in cost. Wigs with European hair costs the most, followed by hair from India/Asia and then wigs with human hair mixed with animal hair comes next.
The hair length of the wig is another factor that affects the price. Wigs with long hair require more material to make so they cost more than short hair wigs.
The material used for the wig’s cap also affects costs. Different types of caps include monofilament, lace front, basic caps and capless. Besides the material used for the cap, the size of the cap will also affect price.
Other factors that affect the cost of your wig include:
- Color
- Hairstyle
- Custom vs. Off-the-shelf
- Brand
- Wig construction
- Hand-made vs. machine made
- Hair texture (curly, straight, wavy)
- Whether the wig is heat friendly or not
From all the stuff listed above, you can see why it’s hard to give a good average cost for a wig!
But the good news about it all is, with so many options, you’re sure to find a wig that meets your needs and budget.
